Decent Homes Network: Join us this September
The June meeting of the Decent Homes Network welcomed Lucy Hancock, Head of Social Housing Redress at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, who attended to gather feedback from housing providers on the implementation of Phase 1 of Awaab’s Law.
Members reported that implementation has generally gone well, with many organisations already working to high standards. However, challenges remain, particularly around gaining access to properties to inspect and address hazards within required timescales.
The discussion also highlighted the need for clearer guidance on damp and mould hazards, with members raising concerns that inconsistent definitions can lead to disproportionate responses and increased pressure on repairs services.
Attendees further discussed the overlap between Awaab’s Law, HHSRS and the emerging Decent Homes Standard, noting the importance of clearer alignment across regulatory requirements. The session provided a valuable opportunity for members to share frontline experiences and help inform future policy development.
