Northern Housing Consortium’s Safety in Neighbourhoods Network is a free member forum to discuss all aspects of community safety and neighbourhood management. Come to hear from expert speakers, share good practice, and discuss sector challenges in an open environment.
The next meeting of the Safety in Neighbourhoods Network will take place Tuesday 4th June 2019, at Ward Hadaway Offices, Leeds.
The meeting will look at Domestic Abuse and Housing and in particular the ‘Whole Housing’ approach pioneered by the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA).
We will be joined by Kelly Henderson, DAHA Co-founder and Business Manager (Domestic Abuse) at Gentoo, and Rachel Batey, Domestic Abuse Coordinator at Stockton Council.
Kelly will set the scene in relation to housing and domestic abuse and introduce DAHA’s ‘whole housing’ approach which is based on daily discussions with survivors, the domestic abuse, homelessness and housing sectors.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has provided funding for three Whole Housing pilots across the country (Cambridge, London and Stockton). The approach will create more housing options available for survivors of domestic abuse, develop good practice among housing professionals and make services more collaborative in their response to domestic abuse.
DAHA sees that the pilots will for the first time, make it possible for individuals to access support no matter what type of housing they live in. Rachel Batey from the Stockton pilot will share their exciting plans to embed the whole housing approach to make a real difference to those experiencing domestic abuse.
